This week is Inter Faith Week. I am celebrating it by visiting various religious communities, which have a place of worship here in Uxbridge and South Ruislip.
For example I have recently visited;
Our Lady of Lourdes and St Michaels Church
Ruislip Manor Synagogue
Shree Adhya Shakti Mataji Temple
St Margarets Church
St Mary's Church, Uxbridge
Outside of visits I touch base with these local religious spaces, and more, to check in.
And despite not being in the constituency of UXSR, I actively participated in religious events on behalf of my fellow MP colleagues, such as attending the Navatri Shree Kutch Leva Patel Community (UK) and the Diwali Mela VTSUK.
It was also great to meet Dean Russell MP who hosted an MP Drop-in at Parliament with Inter Faith Network for the UK.
Inter Faith Network connects positive relations between people of different faiths and beliefs, which are a vital part of communities living well together. Local interfaith organisations make a very important contribution to that.
There are over 250 local interfaith bodies in the UK today.
Interfaith activities meet regularly, develop relationships of mutual trust, work to increase understanding about and between different faiths, tackle prejudice, bring people together in solidarity, and, enable cross-faith discussion on local issues. They are mainly run on an entirely voluntary basis.
To find a local interfaith group in the UK, use the Inter Faith Network’s locator webpage; www.interfaith.org.uk.uk/locator.
For example there are some in UXSR:
As an MP, I will listen to your ideas and concerns, and be your local voice in Parliament on your behalf. I am grateful for the multicultural hub UXSR is, and I will always endeavour to build upon and uphold its reputation.
